Sadly, I haven't taken any good photos yet, so I will leave you with this.

Over the 4th of July, I tried to pick up the New Orleans Shawl again, but I swear, every time I pick it up I screw it up. So after a few days, I finally put it back in time out and moved on. And what better way to move on, than a Flying Pig?!?!?!?!

This was a quick knit that took less than a day. I used Cascade 220 on #5 DPN and found the pattern here.lilpixieknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00917250021102123299noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152351190724516497.post-76192792388072274982011-06-20T17:41:00.000-07:002011-06-20T17:41:28.025-07:00DIY cargo skirtThe endless stockinette of the Daybreak has finally broken me and I had to put it away temporarily. This gave me time to think about redoing the craft room and finally unpacking my grandmothers sewing machine. Of course once I was finished, I needed to do something with it. Enter the DIY cargo skirt...

I took a trip to my local Target and rummaged around the men's department until I spotted the right pair of cargo shorts.

Then I removed the hem from the bottom, the front inseam from the zipper down and the back inseam from the belt loop down,
Honestly, I have never modified a garment like this before, and to actually be wearing it is a huge accomplishment for me! So if I can do it, you can too!!!!!lilpixieknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00917250021102123299noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152351190724516497.post-14858784193939273672011-06-15T05:44:00.000-07:002011-06-15T05:44:08.991-07:00Stripes No Longer! This project has become a slug! However, I finally made it through all 20 stripe repeats yesterday and started on the garter ridges. These rows seem to be moving faster, could it be that I am getting closer to being done?!? Once I have Daybreak completed, I plan on going back to my New Orleans shawl and finishing it before summer is over!!! Last night, as I sat on my back porch enjoying the evening and knitting, it dawned on me that I might not actually have enough yarn to complete the NO shawl. I think if I start to get low on yarn, I'll do my knitted boarder in the Malabrigio Sock (the semi solid color on Daybreak).

Other than that, the past week has been pretty quite, and slow. Hopefully this week will keep on trucking and Saturday will be here before I know it!lilpixieknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00917250021102123299noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152351190724516497.post-38157329124811798472011-06-04T17:52:00.000-07:002011-06-04T17:52:40.013-07:00Stripes, Stripes, and More Stripes!Even though this was a short work week, each day seemed to crawl at a snails pace! And speaking of snails pace, I keep forging ahead on the Daybreak shawl. With each stripe repeat, the rows grow by 14 stitches, making each row longer and longer... I have finally made it through 15, with 5 more to go. Then I get the pleasure of working 7 garter ridges before binding off. It is such a labor of love, but I know the end result will be well worth it!

But knitting is not the only thing I've accomplished this week. While J worked on filling the hole in our downstairs bathroom ceiling (shower leaked from the upstairs bath), I was playing in the yard...again. I managed to hit the pool, plant some pots, pressure wash the patio and the furniture, rearrange the patio with new pillows, and put up our new bird feeders. Over the past two weeks, I was successful in reviving the yard with watering it every other evening. Once it cools down in the fall, I get the task of fertilizing the yard that was neglected for nearly a year. One step at a time I guess.

And last but certainly not least, the Stanley Cup Finals started this week! Currently watching game two, wishing that Boston would land one in the net!!!lilpixieknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00917250021102123299noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152351190724516497.post-54851275821121179572011-05-29T14:53:00.001-07:002011-05-29T15:13:26.705-07:00Busy days and lazy nights
This past week, I started the Daybreak Shawl by Steven West. I had a few rough starts with the M1L and M1R on the edging, so I decided to use yarn overs instead. I choose the Misty Alpaca Sock and Malabrigo Sock...so scrumptious!

During the days, I have been working in the yard, one flower pot at a time. Although a little toad has decided to sabotage me by digging my flowers back up! While J has been fixing the ceiling in the bathroom. We also hung Old Glory!

At night, while J goes out riding, I have been meeting friends at the new coffee shop to knit and chat. It doesn't get much better then that!

Have a safe Memorial Day!
Life has settled down at our new home and moving forward. I've knitted so many things since my last post, but I will leave you with my latest.

Here is the Roxanne shawl, it was a mystery KAL by feministy, and it was my first. I have to admit, while knitting it, I could not see myself wearing it. But now that it is done, I love it!

Thankfully this was a work related trip, seeing how it rained almost the entire time. Mom and I arrived Friday in time to enjoy the sunset from our favorite restaurant on Shem's Creek, The Waters Edge. Dining on mussels in a white wine sauce, crispy duck salad, and crispy grouper dinner made the trip worth it! Sadly the moment didn't last. Saturday was filled with classes and the beginning of the rain.

On Sunday, we had some free time before the opening reception and took advantage of it. After breakfast, we went and got a massage :D It was still raining off and on, so we decided to do a driving tour through Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Island, Boone Plantation, and ending up in Charleston. We stopped by A.W. Shucks for some oysters and back to the hotel to get ready.

Monday was greeted by the ferocious roar of thunder and lightening at 5am. The lack of sleep coupled with the heavy rain made the morning creep by. After more classes, discussions, and walking the trade show, we decided to take the afternoon off and do some more exploring. By this time, my brother had arrived in town and joined us as we drove around Charleston some more. The highlight of the day was driving around The Citadel. The buildings were amazing!

Tuesday was more meetings and more walking of the trade show. That evening, we got all dressed up and attended the banquet and said our goodbyes. Today, we had one more demonstration to attend before hitting the road.

This trip had one major catastrophe. I had brought my Bella Mittens to knit on, seeing how it was small enough to travel. Making my way through the cast on, I set forth into the pattern. Only to realize after 6 rows that I had forgotten my cable needle! I know, I know, there is a way to cable without the needle, but I have no clue how. Bet you can guess what new technique I am going to learn this weekend.

Speaking of this weekend, J and I will be making our way to North Carolina to help his mother set her booth up at the John C Campbell Fall Festival. Not really wanting to travel for the third week in a row, I am beyond excited. I can't wait to see the spinning and weaving demonstrations, all the neat crafts, and everything else. I would be lying if I didn't mention that I can't wait to eat corn dogs and funnel cakes!

Finally settled on the couch, with my feet propped up, watching some hockey...for now.lilpixieknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00917250021102123299noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152351190724516497.post-52986884458342460992010-09-23T12:37:00.000-07:002010-09-23T12:47:25.183-07:00Where did I put that?We finally got moved into our new home over Labor Day weekend. I was sure to make the home as livable as possible in the first few days. That being said, the dining room has become the catch all of boxes and crap we haven't unpacked yet. Other than that, the rooms are nicely put together and even had some time to do a bit of decorating. The best feature so far is the landscaping and lighting. At night it is so peaceful sit outside on the swing and have a soft glow illuminate from the trees, just gorgeous!

Shortly after the move, J and I both got sinus infection and have been under the weather. Add to that, my brother got married on the 17th in Savannah. The wedding (and the bride) were beautiful. I am so happy for them and wish them many years of happiness. Speaking of Savannah, I just love the damn place. I need to find a way to move there ;) As doubtful as that may be... But J and I had a blast none the less and biked around all the squares and enjoyed the time we spent together.

Only being home for a few days, I am turning around and headed out again. Hell, I didn't even unpack my bags, what's the point? So until mid next week, I will find myself in Charleston for a business conference. Don't get me wrong, I almost love Charleston as much as Savannah. Sadly, we will be staying out by the airport with a jam packed schedule :( Hopefully mom and I can sneak away on Sunday for some sight seeing.

On the knitting front, I have found some time to dabble among a few projects, only completing Citron. Slowly the Traveling Woman is getting closer to being finished...maybe. And in between, I added Bella's mittens and the Hemlock Ring Blanket. Once life slows down for me to catch my breath, I will be posting pictures.lilpixieknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00917250021102123299noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152351190724516497.post-30203713804957326932010-08-22T19:53:00.000-07:002010-08-22T20:04:49.898-07:00Time doesn't stop for meSo many things have happened since my last post. First and foremost, we are moving on September 4th!!! Our house has been inspected, appraised, and repaired. Closing has been moved back and forth, and we still are not sure if it will be the 27th or the 1st. But one thing we do know, the movers are booked for the the 4th...no turning back now! This whole process has been an emotional roller coaster for my husband and myself. We stuck to our guns during negotiations and our expectations, and it worked out for the best in the end.

On the knitting front...well...the Traveling Woman shawl has been put in time out and boxed up for the move. But don't be sad, I started and completed the Citron. Thankfully an awesome friend, Jana, has stepped up to the plate to block my little creation, since I have absolutely no time. Once I get it back, I will be sure to post pictures and talk about the project.

Now, time for more boxes and bed :Dlilpixieknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00917250021102123299noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152351190724516497.post-313925410779893082010-07-16T19:19:00.000-07:002010-07-16T19:41:59.509-07:00Kingdom of nothingI swear, I am in a knitting slump! I am still working on my Traveling Woman Shawl, still on chart B. I guess with everything going on around me, I just can't find the time. But when I have time to myself, I choose to veg on the couch watching TV. Sure, that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I did however find time to actually read. Such a foreign concept for me...considering that I have picked up a few novels, but nothing seemed to stick. So in less than a week, I bought and thoroughly read The Wild Things by Dave Eggers. The book is based on the kid's book Where The Wild Things Are that was recently turned into a movie. I have to say, the book was an easy page turner, that kept my interest and wanting more. I highly suggest it. Now I just need to see the movie :)

On the house front, it looks like things might be working out for us. We meet with our agent tomorrow afternoon to go over another counteroffer. However, the listing agent has moved the listing from 'active' to 'pending'. So that has to be a good sign...right? Either way, I am going to start going room by room and getting things organized for a move. This weekend I plan on tackling the craft room, since it will be the easiest. The good news for any of my readers out there, is that I have a TON of acrylic yarn that needs a new home! It was given to me by a family member a few years ago. and while I have used some and given some away, I still have a ton...any takers???? Here is a picture to give you an idea of just how much yarn is up for grabs. Oh, and one more thing, who ever wants, must take it all :)
lilpixieknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00917250021102123299noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152351190724516497.post-15295061653016083832010-07-07T12:53:00.000-07:002010-07-07T13:24:53.442-07:00Another hot dayThe past few weeks have been filled with hot air and humidity. One would think that this hot spell has to end at some point. Sadly, it is only going to get worse before it gets better. At least it was very pleasant over the holiday weekend, and only reached the mid to high 80's - what perfect timing!

On the house hunting front, we had seen quite a few that caught our eye. We made our first offer on a home, that didn't pan out the way we thought it should, so now we our on round 2. We did get to learn the ropes of making an offer (ie: the untold VA funding fee; closing costs; home warranties; etc) and feel pretty confident about this round. We should hopefully hear back this evening.

On the knitting front, I have been working on The Traveling Woman Shawl still. I started this just before I left for Ohio and I am almost done with my 4th repeat of chart A, then I will only have to do chart B and bind off. I am actually excited about blocking this...yeah, you heard right, excited, go figure.
lilpixieknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00917250021102123299noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152351190724516497.post-83094556219631520852010-06-18T18:01:00.000-07:002010-06-18T18:28:26.931-07:00Too little too lateIt figures that when we go to put a bid on the house, that someone beat us to it. I guess it wasn't meant to be, at least that is what I keep telling myself. On the bright side, we will be going house hunting again tomorrow. I picked out 3 homes in a newer subdivision in the next town over. I never really pictured us as a neighborhood couple, but these are worth a look.

Sadly, I have come down with some sorta head cold/sinus funk. Stuffed up nose, sneezing, watery eyes, sinus pressure, the works...what the heck is blooming? Hopefully it will pass soon, since I have a loaded weekend with Father's Day dinners. Thankfully, J has been sweet enough to bring me medicine, snacks and fluids :0)

On the knitting front: Today's featured project, Sipalu Bag, is actually still ongoing. I started it at the beginning of the year and have only worked on it every so often. The pattern and yarn came from Knit Picks...all 17 colors! This project has been a labor of love to say the least. Trying to knit from a chart with multiple strands of yarn can be nerve racking. My biggest advice; be patient and take your time! Currently, I have only finished the side and front panels, and I am about half way through the back. For the strap, they recommend i-cord, but I think I will use fabric instead. So what do you think???
lilpixieknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00917250021102123299noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152351190724516497.post-51718093394383228372010-06-16T15:18:00.000-07:002010-06-16T15:44:35.145-07:00Hey Guys, this is lilpixie knitsSomeone please tell me you get the reference. If not, I'll tell you at the later. After many weeks of no AC at the shop, I finally have cold air! Seriously, how can anyone survive the heat without AC n Georgia?!?! And it isn't even considered hot yet O_o

This past weekend, I was able to spend some much needed relaxation up at the family farm in southern Ohio. Hanging out at the pond, doing some fishing and swimming with the family. Since the passing of my grandfather in February, every minute I get to spend with my grandmother is precious!

In other news, J and I have been house hunting. One would think that this would be an easy process. Boy was I wrong! I have decided that finding the 'right' one is an never-ending process and that you must be able to compromise. There is one house that just about matches all of our wants, so we might put a bid on it in the next couple of days. Stay tuned to find out :0)

Today's featured project is the Leisl Cardigan by Ysolda Teague. Overall, this was a very simple knit, one that I plan on doing again. Except next time, I will check my gauge! So this ended up being a graduation gift for my cousin, who just graduated from UC. I choose the Malabrigo Yarn Twist in purple, only used 2.3 skeins. I also did a modification to the body: instead of continuing the purl ridge in the lace repeat, I made it stockinette. Then at the bottom, I did 3 lace repeats with the purl ridge to help balance out the pattern.
Hey Guys, this is Jaime Oliver!lilpixieknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00917250021102123299noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152351190724516497.post-65588310270976619892010-06-15T18:40:00.000-07:002010-06-15T18:54:54.172-07:00lilpixie knits strikes backWow, I still have this thing? I saw it at Stitches South last weekend and fell in love on the spot. So I bought the pattern and 14 balls of the softest bamboo/cotton blend yarn. Below only shows one lace repeat, this was down the night I got home. As of now, I have moved past the left armhole and 1/2 way through the back. With any luck, this will be completed not this weekend, but the next. This is top priority, since I plan to wear it KG's wedding next month over a white sundress.

The Heroine Coat is all but completed and will probably not be touched again until September. While I can proudly report that I am almost done with the body portion and after trying it on, it fits perfect....I found a flaw. Now I have to figure out how to work the border backwards, with out messing up my color work. Can't even begin to explain the disappointment with this. It wasn't like I got screwed up in the lace pattern or anything, no, it was in the simple knit border! If I wouldn't have screwed up, the body could easily be completed this weekend. But now I have to put it on hold and wait until Tuesday and beg my girls for some help. Guess that gives me an excuse to pick up Heroine....

Thankfully that was the only thing that sucked today. I got my promised pancake breakfast from J, by way of Rib Ranch. I swear, they have the best coffee and breakfast around here...we make damn sure to go EVERY weekend. Afterward, we made our way to some stores and put a major dent in our bank accounts. Too bad it was on groceries and household things, nothing to fun to report there. I did make my way over to TWNY to see the new expanded section. It rocks, simple as that. Debbi now has the old shop for nothing but yarn and what nots, and the new section (the old jewelry store) is nothing but a huge sitting area for classes, dying, and knit night!lilpixieknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00917250021102123299noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152351190724516497.post-40888629348856660712009-04-10T20:12:00.000-07:002009-04-11T19:26:53.590-07:00Funk, I got rid of itMan, I have been in a serious funk fog for the past month or so. Until this week, I haven't even picked up my needles, barely went to the gym, or get my ass off the couch. Well, that finally changed. After weeks of pussing out on my girls, I finally joined them on Tuesday night for some much needed, and way over due, girls night at TWNY. As always, I enjoyed every minute of it, and even felt like kicking myself in the ass for not going this past month. Once I found myself at home, I decided it was do or die time on my knitting. So I picked up my needles and dove into the lace portion of February Lady. I am pleased to say that I missed this. I missed how relaxing knitting could be. Since then, I have easily added a few inches, but have many more to do. I also have the Heroine jacket on hold; however, I only have to finish up the sleeves and then I can sew it together and take it up to Susan's farm to get felted. I have high hopes that I will finish both projects pretty soon. I have also promised myself not to start any other project and not to promise anyone anything.

Life has treated me well in the past few weeks, with nothing to exciting to report. Except the occasional visit of family members that have come through my revolving front door. From my dad and stepmother, to my cousin and her baby. I have to say, I enjoyed each visit, but was happy to see each one leave. My step moms cancer has not beaten her down any and this pleases me...that women is a serious fighter. Her optimism and determination don't surprise me, but inspire me. I hope that if something every that devastating happens to me, that I will have the same will power to meet it head on. I actually worry more for my father, you could see the hurt and sadness in his eyes. She is his whole world and he would be lost without her.

Since I have a wedding to attend in June (on the beach), I have challenged myself to lose some weight...or at least tone up some. So, I have been hitting the gym up again, after a 3 week hiatus. I think I might have pushed myself too hard, but I keep telling myself that it is all worth it. I have lost a few pounds, but I am not sure if it is the gym, the diet, or the meds...or a combo, but hell, I'll take it.lilpixieknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00917250021102123299noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152351190724516497.post-13229193056021347262009-03-03T12:59:00.000-08:002009-03-03T13:21:59.356-08:00I know, I know...
I am not to good at keeping this things current. But with a broken camera and a broken laptop, I do what I can :)

I have been working slowly on the Heroine Jacket. I have completed both front panels and the back. All I have left are the sleeves, seam, and felt. I do have to admit though, I really haven't had the knitting bug since I returned from PCB a few weeks ago, so I am not sure when I will complete it. However, I will do my best to take progress photos this weekend...just don't hold your breath, I have family coming in town.

As for me, I have continued to stay in the yoga classes and trying to eat better (some days are better than others). A few weeks back, I had two temporary crowns put on and my bite has been off ever since, causing not so lovely headaches and such. No worries, the new crowns will be in shortly, and I am getting my bite fixed tomorrow.

On Sunday it snowed here. Too many, this means jack, but to us southerners, this is a big deal...So I leave you with pictures of Jay, Roxy, and I playing in it!

lilpixieknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00917250021102123299noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152351190724516497.post-43170978499950056992009-01-31T18:17:00.001-08:002009-01-31T18:34:24.063-08:00New day, new hair
Today I had my mom give me a trim. Which meant I went super short in the back again and added me some bangs! Tomorrow, instead of watching the SB, I am meets my girls at IAG for some much needed relaxing knitting. Since my last post, I haven't had the time or energy to knit much. I have been consumed by exercising. After browsing some old photos of me, I have found the inspiration photo that I plan to print out and tape to the mirror.

This was take in 2005 in New Orleans...literally one week prior to Katrina hitting. I was a size 4 and in great shape. I know a size 4 is stretching it, but a nice 6 will do just fine!lilpixieknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00917250021102123299noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152351190724516497.post-30804889064243290872009-01-28T08:34:00.000-08:002009-01-28T08:49:52.985-08:00Why oh why do I torture myself?Since the beginning of the new year, I have been painfully torturing myself at the gym. I can start to see the results, which is satisfying, but damn the pain! I always thought of myself as a strong person, some what athletic...but I guess that was 10 years ago, when I was actually playing soccer. Nope, I am a lazy sack of shit, that would rather sit my ass on the couch watching a hockey game. I manage to get up and go work out either before or after work, roughly 3-4 times a week. I have also managed to reject the mouth watering cheese cake that my mom keeps making. Unfortunately, my knitting has some what suffered. I am tired all the time and again...I would rather sit my ass on the couch watching a hockey game! With that said, I have started on a jacket! So far I only have about 75% of the back completed, and hope to finish it and start on the front panel this weekend.lilpixieknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00917250021102123299noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-152351190724516497.post-88954134618690779632009-01-05T13:41:00.000-08:002009-01-13T11:33:47.160-08:00

This was originally a Christmas present planned for my brother. But mr.pixie got to it first! This pattern is from Huan-Hau Chye called A Very Plain Hat. I loved how simplistic and fast this knit up. The first one I completed was out of Cascade Rustic, unfortunately, I can't recall what I used this time.

I also took the time out of my 'busy' life to do a good deed. A lady at my LYS came in telling us about how her neighbors soon was deployed last year. Before he left, she had made him a helmet liner to take with him. When he was on leave recently, he requested 12 more for his friends. Here is mr.pixie proudly displaying what he now calls his beard warmer...

lilpixieknitshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00917250021102123299noreply@blogger.com2
